Il Telefono Azzurro Onlus

Telefono Azzurro was founded in Italy in 1987 as a non-profit organization committed to the prevention of child abuse and neglect.

During the last 27 years, Telefono Azzurro has become a national reference point for children and adolescents in difficulty and at risk.

The core of Telefono Azzurro’s activity is the helpline, with its national call centre works 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The helpline is a confidential, free and secure space where young people or their family can chat, email or speak on the phone with a qualified youth professional about problems related to several issues they want to talk about from relational difficulties to the use of digital technologies and on-line safety. The helpline also offers specialist support to parents and carers who are worried about a young person’s safety.

The association is strongly involved in advocating children’s rights and promoting a children’s culture within the Italian society by collaborating closely not only with national but also with European and international networks such as Child Helpline International (CHI), International Center for Missing and exploited Children (ICMEC), Missing Children Europe and International Association for Internet hotlines (INHOPE) and INSAFE and, since 2010, working for developing the European Antibullying network. Finally, Telefono Azzurro is  now co-leading the Italian Safer Internet Center with Save the Children Italy.
