Athens, 8 February 2016

Safer Internet Day 2016 is on Tuesday 9 February and “The Smile of the Child” in cooperation with Microsoft and Wind are raising awareness among students and parents through different events taking place in Athens and Thessaloniki, Greece.

On Tuesday, 9 February, “The Smile of the Child” in cooperation with Microsoft Hellas will co-organise a public event with the participation of more than 100 students. The aim of this event that will be held under the aegis of the Office of the European Parliament in Greece is to highlight the ever increasing role of the internet in the lives of children as a useful tool of knowledge and education and minimize, at the other hand, the threats and risks for their safety.

The event will be interactive as there will be a dialogue on a true story of a teenager, victim of cyber-bullying. Psychologists of “The Smile of the Child” and experts of Microsoft Hellas and the Hellenic Association for the Study of Internet Addiction Disorder will take part in this event and will provide guidance on the issue.

A team of the Greek Organization will also take part in a similar event in Thessaloniki on the same day which will be also organised by Microsoft Hellas in cooperation with the Cyber-Crime Unit of the Hellenic Police.
